"The city Links of London have been very open to the idea and are focused on encouraging future development opportunities in the city, one being the revitalization of Old Seabrook," Van Wyk said. "The Pelican Market not only meets the goals of the city, but creates a quality travel destination that will enhance area tourism and feed visitor traffic to existing shops and dining establishments." Although the property at 1325 Links of London Disc charm Road needs improvement, Van Wyk says the SEDC applied for a $100,000 start-up grant through the U.S. Department of Agriculture that she expects to be awarded in October. Need in the community Van Wyk, a 40-year-old Johannesburg, South Africa native and League City resident, is a self-described "incurable entrepreneur." Already compiling a growing list of local farmers and craftspeople interested in selling their wares at the market, Van Links of London Back to School Chubby Blue Pencil Charm says she's got plenty of support from the community for the market she plans to open this fall. Van Wyk's husband Daniel will act as business partner while children Trisha, 7, and Trevor, 5, plan to open their own booth at the market. "Open air markets are fairly common in South Africa and I've always loved to visit them, never knowing what I might find," said Van Links of London Back to School Chubby Red Pencil Charm.
